In the 1930s, Edwin Armstrong developed frequency modulation (FM) radio, which provided clearer sound quality and was less susceptible to interference than amplitude modulation (AM) radio.

The rise of television in the 1950s led to a decline in the popularity of radio as a primary form of home entertainment. However, radio remained an important medium for music, news, and talk programming.

FM radio experienced a resurgence in the 1960s and 1970s, thanks to its superior sound quality and the introduction of stereo broadcasting. Today, both AM and FM radio continue to be popular forms of entertainment and information dissemination, alongside the rise of internet radio and podcasts.
