Invention of Radio Waves: The theoretical groundwork for radio was laid by James Clerk Maxwell in the 1860s, who theorized the existence of electromagnetic waves. In the 1880s, Heinrich Hertz demonstrated the existence of these waves.
Wireless Telegraphy: Guglielmo Marconi is often credited with the invention of radio. In the late 19th century, he developed the first practical wireless telegraphy system, which used radio waves to transmit Morse code signals over long distances.
Early Radio Broadcasting: The first voice and music broadcast occurred in 1906, when Reginald Fessenden transmitted a program of voice and music from Brant Rock, Massachusetts.
Regulation and Commercialization: As radio technology advanced, governments began to regulate the airwaves. In the United States, the Radio Act of 1912 required licensing for radio transmitters. The development of vacuum tubes in the 1910s and 1920s allowed for more powerful and reliable radio transmissions.
