Organized Labour Halts Strike, Grants SSNIT One Month to Address Concerns

Organized Labour has called off its nationwide strike, which began on Monday, July 15, 2024.
The strike was in protest against the sale of 60 percent of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) shares in four hotels.
The decision to call off the strike came after SSNIT, in a letter dated July 12, 2024, informed Organized Labour that it had terminated the intended sale of its stake in the hotels to Rock City Hotel, owned by Bryan Acheampong.
At an emergency meeting held in Accra on Monday, Dr. Yaw Baah, Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress, announced that they had decided to end the strike and requested all workers to resume work on Tuesday, July 16, 2024
He indicated that they have given SSNIT a one-month ultimatum to engage with them and address all outstanding issues related to the management of pensions.
Dr. Baah warned that they would ‘advise themselves’ if SSNIT fails to meet this demand.
He expressed gratitude to all the working people of Ghana and all Organized Labour groups for their support during the strike.
