BECE: Two additional teachers apprehended at Jachie Pramso for involvement in exam malpractice

Written by on July 10, 2024

Two additional teachers have been arrested in Jachie Pramso, Ashanti Region, for alleged examination malpractice. This follows an earlier arrest of three teachers and two residents in Bekwai on the first day of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

In an interview with Channel One News, Divine Walanyo Agbonyo, the Ashanti Regional Branch Controller of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), mentioned that supervisors accused of colluding with private schools to assist students during exams have been replaced.

Agbonyo cautioned against teachers and parents visiting examination centers to prevent further malpractices, underscoring the severe consequences for those caught cheating.

He also noted that some teachers and residents arrested in Bekwai were arraigned on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

“On Monday some people were arrested at Bekwai. On Tuesday we arrested some teachers too at Jachie Pramso. So far in Kumasi, these are the ones that have been brought to my notice. Before the exam started, we had a hint that some supervisors were arranging with private schools to take money so they could assist their students. We’ve had them removed.”

“Bekwai, three teachers were arrested, and those three teachers happened to be from a private school. Two guys, they were town folks at Jachie Pramso, two teachers. They have been arrested so far.”
