During his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament in Accra on Tuesday, Herbert Krapah, the Minister of State Designate at the Energy Ministry, reassured that the government is dedicated to mitigating the effects of the planned spillage of excess water from the Akosombo Dam.
The Volta River Authority (VRA) has announced its intention to engage with relevant stakeholders regarding the potential spillage.
Krapah acknowledged that lessons have been learned from the damages caused by last year’s spillage and affirmed that measures would be implemented to minimize future impacts.
“VRA is going ahead with the stakeholder consultations and the sensitisations and the ministry and central government will work closely with them to ensure that the programme that they have put in place to mitigate the impact of the spill and also ensure the integrity of the dam will be executed, according to plan,” he stated.
