A Political Historian from the Political Science Department at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Samuel Adu Gyamfi, has advised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to ensure that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the party’s running mate, refrains from making unscripted public speeches.
Professor Adu Gyamfi emphasized that Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s strong personality could overshadow the party’s message if he speaks extemporaneously.
In an interview on Eyewitness News on Thursday, July 4, Professor Adu Gyamfi highlighted the importance of Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s experience on the Bawumia ticket, but stressed the need for careful handling to maintain message consistency.
“I believe that for public engagements, particularly speeches and campaign platforms, it would be prudent for him not to speak extemporaneously or off the cuff,” he stated.
I believe that Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s political handlers, speechwriters, and communication experts should prepare him to adopt a measured tone. Despite his strong personality and charisma, it’s crucial that his speeches reflect party values while maintaining a respectful and inclusive demeanor,” stated Professor Samuel Adu Gyamfi from the Political Science Department at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The National Executive Council of the NPP unanimously endorsed Bawumia’s nomination of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, as his running mate for the 2024 general elections in December, as announced on Thursday, July 4.
