The Education Ministry has announced that all Senior High Schools will receive their free student tablets by October 2024.
On March 24, 2024, President Akufo-Addo revealed plans to distribute smart tablets to approximately 1.3 million Senior High School (SHS) students nationwide. This announcement was made during the inauguration of the Ghana Smart Schools Project in Accra. The project aims to equip students under the free SHS policy with essential technological skills, aligning with the government’s commitment to enhance education through technology.
In May 2024, the Ministry reported that around 70,000 smart tablets had already been distributed to 30 of the 450,000 schools set to receive them, with some schools still awaiting their allocation.
Speaking at the International Educators Summit 2024, themed “Reimagining Education for the Future We Seek: Africa and the World in Dialogue,” the Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, assured that all schools would receive their tablets by October.
“We have built momentum in integrating education with technology. Within the next two to three months, all high schools will receive their tablets—every one of the 1.3 million. We have already started the distribution.”
