UCC Students Call for Bridge to Connect Hostels and Lecture Halls Amid Flooding Concerns

Students at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) are urging authorities to construct a bridge to connect their hostels with key lecture halls on campus, particularly the Sandwich Lecture Theatre (SWLT).
The students are frustrated by the difficulty of accessing some lecture halls and theatres during rainfall, as the paths become flooded.
A bridge would allow students residing in hostels at Ayensu and parts of Kwapro to reach the SWLT more easily, without incurring additional costs.
Temporary measures such as blocks and wooden planks have been placed along the path, but these are often submerged during heavy rainfall, highlighting the need for a permanent solution.
Julius Quartey, the Water and Sanitation Chair of the Students Representative Council (SRC) at UCC, emphasized the need for a proper bridge in an interview with Channel One News.
“We want to propose the construction of a proper bridge so that students can use it. Whenever it rains, the area gets flooded, making it impossible for students to pass through.”
