GES Introduces Self-Placement System for Newly Qualified Teachers

Written by on July 4, 2024

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has implemented a self-placement system for 12,720 newly qualified teachers who have successfully completed their degree programs at colleges of education and passed their licensure exams.

After issuing an employment invitation on May 11, 2024, the GES received over 20,000 applications from eligible teachers, of which 12,720 were selected in the initial phase.

These individuals are required to visit the Ghana Education Service portal between July 5 and July 31, 2024, to complete the self-placement process.

During a press conference at the GES headquarters in Accra on Thursday, July 4, Director-General Eric Nkansah highlighted that the self-placement system aims to mitigate challenges such as language barriers and financial constraints faced by teachers.

The self-placement recruitment model offers the advantage of assigning newly trained teachers to regions where language proficiency is not a barrier. This enables them to effectively communicate in the local language of their choice, thereby enhancing the teaching and learning environment,” he emphasized.

“These individuals are required to visit the Ghana Education Service portal between July 5 and July 31, 2024, to complete the self-placement process. Furthermore, teachers have the opportunity to choose schools near their families and subsequently receive economic support.”

“The steps necessary to access the platform and select their preferred school are outlined on the GES promotion platform, which they used during their initial application,” he clarified.
