Ato Forson’s trial: Ambulances were tailored to meet government specifications, asserts Jakpa.

Written by on July 2, 2024

Richard Jakpa, the third defendant in the ambulance procurement trial, emphasized that the ambulances were specifically designed to meet the government’s requirements.

He stated that Big Sea Limited, the company responsible for supplying the ambulances, meticulously tailored each vehicle to precisely match the government’s specifications.

Mr. Jakpa underscored that Big Sea Limited took extensive measures to adhere to the government’s specifications, ensuring the ambulances were fully equipped with medical devices, advanced communication systems, and enhanced safety features essential for effective healthcare service delivery.

However, he lamented that the government’s failure to accept the ambulances upon delivery resulted in substantial financial losses for Big Sea Limited.

He argued that the government’s delays and lack of support placed an unfair burden on the company, which had made substantial investments to meet the stringent specifications.

Mr. Jakpa emphasized that despite the government’s inaction, the company remained committed to delivering high-quality, custom-built ambulances.

Addressing allegations of financial impropriety, he vehemently denied claims of receiving 50% of the contract sum, labeling these accusations as unfounded and distracting from the core issue: the government’s failure to fulfill its contractual obligations.

Mr. Jakpa insisted that the priority should be on ensuring accountability and resolving logistical challenges that have hindered the effective deployment of the ambulances.
