The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of significantly undermining Ghana’s potential since gaining independence on March 6, 1957.
In a statement commemorating the day Ghana became a Republic, NDC’s General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey, asserted that the failures of the current NPP administration have stagnated development and exacerbated economic challenges.
He emphasized that the current NPP leadership lacks credibility and patriotism, leading to economic deterioration and escalating youth unemployment.
“On July 1, 1960, Ghana became an independent republic, with Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah as its first president. This historic day marked the beginning of Ghana’s journey as a beacon of progress and a shining star of Africa. Today, however, the promise of those early years has been overshadowed by the failures of the current NPP administration.
A leadership lacking credibility and patriotism has led to an economy in disarray, with youth unemployment at an all-time high. Our education and healthcare systems are rapidly deteriorating. Citizens are burdened with excessive taxes, businesses struggle to survive, and the hope and dignity of our people are at their lowest ebb.”
The NDC’s statement calls on Ghanaians to trust its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, to address the failures of the NPP.
The NDC further alleges that the NPP is actively trying to undermine the will of the people in the upcoming December general elections to prevent John Dramani Mahama from assuming leadership.
“We are aware of the NPP’s desperation to hold onto power and their evident attempts to undermine the will of the people. Therefore, we urge you to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. The NDC is committed to working with you to ensure a fair and transparent election process.
