Assisting victims of the June 3 disaster sparked my political journey – Zanetor

Written by on June 28, 2024

The June 3rd disaster experience ignited my political ambition,” said Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle Constituency.

Speaking on Starr Chat with Bola Ray on Thursday, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings explained that her political ambition was sparked by her experience assisting victims of the June 3rd disaster.

“It was a very profound moment for me. I was partnering with TV3 to provide relief items to the victims of the June 3rd disaster. During one of these donation exercises, particularly in the community of Odorna, which I later learned was part of my constituency, I realized there was more to be done beyond just giving relief items. As we distributed aid, I noticed the significant debris and dirt in the area, which posed serious sanitation challenges. This led me to step out of the truck and tour the area with community leaders to understand the root causes,” Madam Zanetor shared.

She continued, “The sanitation issues were glaring, and it became clear that without addressing these, disease outbreaks were imminent. This experience motivated me to initiate a large-scale clean-up effort, which ultimately shaped my journey into politics. Initially, it wasn’t about running for Parliament but recognizing the critical need for a clean environment.”

Dr. Zanetor emphasized the vital link between environmental cleanliness and public health, regardless of the presence of advanced healthcare facilities. She stressed, “Even with the best hospitals, if our environment is neglected, our health suffers. It’s a fundamental connection we must uphold.”
