The 2025 AFCON will take place in Morocco, scheduled for December.

Written by on June 21, 2024

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is scheduled to take place in Morocco, commencing on December 21, 2025 and concluding on January 18, 2026. This decision follows the deliberations of CAF’s Executive Committee meeting held today in Cairo, Egypt, which formalized the previously reported adjustment to the competition dates.

The decision, as reported by Citi Sports, was made to avoid a clash between the 2025 AFCON and the expanded FIFA Club World Cup, scheduled for June 15 to July 13 in the United States of America.

The expanded tournament will include 32 teams competing for the world title, featuring prominent clubs such as Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City, Al-Ahly from Egypt, Mamelodi Sundowns from South Africa, and Wydad Casablanca from Morocco.

Shifting next year’s AFCON to these new dates also moves the competition from the intense summer season to the colder winter season in the North African nation.
