Tetteh Paddie, Executive Secretary of the Ghana Refugee Board, has announced the successful relocation of over 100 refugees following the demolition at Buduburam.
The demolition resulted in the destruction of numerous homes, prompting residents to swiftly gather their belongings.
In an interview with Citi News on Thursday, Paddie explained that the relocated individuals have been transferred to various refugee camps across the country.
“Most of the Liberians at Buduburam are not refugees. The few who are refugees approached us, and we continue to provide them with support. We relocated about 150 refugees to a camp in the Western region,” he stated.
“The rest of them are mostly former refugees who have chosen to stay in Ghana, and therefore they are no longer under the care of the Ghana Refugee Board. They are simply Liberian nationals,” he clarified.
Paddie also revealed ongoing efforts to facilitate the repatriation of the remaining Liberian refugees to their homeland.
“As we know, the first batch of Liberians has already departed. The Liberian government has expressed its commitment to continue repatriating those who wish to return voluntarily. While I can’t provide a specific date, we are in communication with the Liberian government to coordinate the next movement,” he explained.
