Written by on June 20, 2024

Alhaji Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Pusiga, has inaugurated a FIFA-standard AstroTurf in the constituency.

This modern facility features floodlights, coaches’ benches, fencing, and an inner perimeter, among other amenities, poised to revolutionize sports and recreational activities in the area.

In his speech, Alhaji Aludiba highlighted the Astroturf’s significance in promoting youth sports, offering a contemporary venue for training and matches, and nurturing community pride.

He emphasized that this project is part of his broader vision to enhance the quality of life in Pusiga through various development initiatives.

“When we broke ground for the Astroturf, some doubted its reality, but today, we witness its completion. I assured you of my knowledge of the roads and my connections. Today, standing as the NPP’s PC, even in candidacy, I’ve accomplished much. I appeal to you to elect me to Parliament.”

“In certain places I visit, they inquire if I am already an MP. Without the title, I cannot effectively represent. Entrust me with your vote, and I will serve the people of Pusiga diligently,” he passionately appealed.

Alhaji Aludiba, CEO of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), pledged to conduct a peaceful campaign to secure the Pusiga seat currently held by opposition MP Hajia Lardi Ayi Ayamba.

The AstroTurf project, spearheaded by Alhaji Aludiba, was financed by the Ghana National Gas Company Limited as part of its corporate social responsibility to enhance sports development in the country.

According to Edomgbole Nwiah Anyimah, Project Manager at Ghana National Gas Company Limited, their organization has initiated the construction of 94 AstroTurf projects nationwide since 2019. Of these, 26 have been completed and commissioned, while work on the remaining 68 is ongoing.

In addition to the AstroTurf projects, Mr. Anyimah noted that Ghana National Gas Company Limited has completed 155 other development projects in the northern sector of Ghana.

He urged the management committee of the Pusiga pitch to ensure its proper upkeep to fulfill its intended purpose.

Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, highlighted that the nationwide construction of AstroTurfs aligns with the President’s vision to enhance sporting activities in Ghana.

“Before assuming office in 2017, we had only 3 AstroTurfs in the entire country. With the commissioning of this AstroTurf, we will now have 156 AstroTurfs nationwide.

His Excellency has also overseen the construction of 10 youth resource centers, each with a seating capacity of 5000, with 6 of them already completed,” he emphasized. The commissioning ceremony was graced by several dignitaries including Deputy Transport Minister Hassan Tampuli, NPP National Organizer Henry Nana Boakye, Upper East Regional NPP Chairman Lawyer Anthony Namoo, former Ghanaian football stars Stephen Appiah, Laryea Kingston, John Paintstil, and Emmanuel Agyemang Boadu. Also in attendance were chiefs and religious leaders.
