The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has declared its plans to commence a crackdown on tax defaulters starting June 21, 2024, citing Section 80 of the Revenue Administration Act, 2016 (Act 915), which defines non-compliance with tax obligations as an offence.
Accordingly, the GRA will initiate a debt collection campaign to recover outstanding tax arrears.
In a statement, the revenue collection agency urged all tax defaulters to settle their arrears promptly or establish suitable arrangements to fulfill their tax obligations.
“The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) informs its clients, particularly registered taxpayers, about its ongoing debt collection effort to recover outstanding tax debts. This initiative encompasses all taxpayers, including public institutions with existing tax liabilities. Taxpayers are encouraged to settle their dues promptly through cash or cheque at designated banks, the Ghana.gov platform, via USSD code *222#, or by making suitable arrangements to clear all outstanding tax arrears.
“The GRA also emphasizes that failure to settle tax obligations by the specified deadline constitutes an offence under Section 80 of the Revenue Administration Act, 2016 (Act 915). The Commissioner-General is prepared to employ all enforcement mechanisms to recover unpaid tax debts after Friday, June 21, 2024. Therefore, we urge all taxpayers to take heed and act accordingly,” the statement concluded.
Previously, the GRA has undertaken various initiatives to enhance revenue mobilization efforts.
Earlier this year, the revenue collection agency announced intentions to prioritize voluntary compliance with tax obligations as part of its strategy to achieve its revenue target of GH¢146 billion for 2024.
