Court admits complete WhatsApp conversations between Jakpa and AG as evidence.

Written by on June 20, 2024

The court has accepted the complete WhatsApp conversation between Richard Jakpa and Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame as evidence.

This follows objections from Richard Jakpa’s lawyers against the admission of the entire WhatsApp conversation between their client and Godfred Dame.

During cross-examination, the prosecution sought to introduce into evidence the entire WhatsApp chat, consisting of 68 messages from Richard Jakpa and two responses from Godfred Dame.

However, Thaddeus Sory, representing Richard Jakpa, pointed out discrepancies between the submitted conversation and what is stored on the accused’s phone.

Thaddeus Sory argued that the timestamps on the messages from both parties do not align, raising concerns about the authenticity of the addressed messages.

He asserted that admitting the Attorney General’s version of the WhatsApp conversations could lead to significant prejudice.

In response, the prosecution urged the court to accept the WhatsApp chats as they are pertinent to the case. Director of Public Prosecutions Yvonne Attakora Obuobisa emphasized that the messages are crucial since the accused acknowledged not presenting the complete conversation.

Ultimately, the judge admitted the prosecution’s WhatsApp conversation as evidence, ruling that its inclusion would not cause prejudice.
