Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, the leader of the Northern Caucus in Parliament, highlighted that a significant number of Ghana’s security personnel, whether in public or private sectors, lack sufficient resources to effectively combat crime.
The Wa Central MP noted that the most vulnerable security officers or guards are those who primarily rely on their physical strength for defense.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of two individuals in the Wa Municipality of the Upper West Region.
The incidents occurred on Tuesday at the Wa East Education Service office and the Wa Model JHS School.
“We assure the public, especially Wa residents, to remain calm as we pursue those responsible for arrest and justice,” the statement said.
Speaking on the JoyNews AM Show, Mr. Rashid Pelpuo stated, “The victims are often security personnel whose only defense is their physical strength, and unfortunately, the police pursuing them seem to lack the necessary technical equipment.”
Mr. Pelpuo highlighted the disparity between law enforcement in Western countries, as depicted in media and reports, and the inadequate resources of the Ghanaian police force, posing a significant challenge.
He advocated for sending specially trained personnel to Wa to handle the investigation and apprehension of the perpetrators.
“For the type of police work needed now, it appears we are not equipped for thorough investigations into such internal and complex matters. We lack the required sophistication,” he emphasized.
