An aircraft carrying Malawi’s Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima and nine others has been reported missing, according to Malawi’s presidency on Monday.
“All efforts by aviation authorities to establish contact with the aircraft since it disappeared from radar have been unsuccessful thus far,” stated Malawi’s Office of the President and Cabinet.
Chilima, aged 51, was on board a Malawi Defense Force aircraft that departed from the capital Lilongwe at 09:17 a.m. (0717 GMT), it said, noting that search and rescue operations were currently underway.
The aircraft was scheduled to land at Mzuzu International Airport at 10:02 a.m., as per the statement.
